The Mechanics of Scientific Curation
The advancement of health equity relies not only on raw epidemiological data, but on the gatekeepers who curate, validate, and amplify that data. The BCPH Editorial Fellowship transitions scholars from content consumers to architectural decision-makers.
Fellows are fully embedded within the BCPH Review infrastructure. You will engage in rigorous manuscript evaluation, constructive peer review, and developmental editing, ensuring that marginalized narratives and cutting-edge systemic research are published with uncompromising academic integrity.
Peer-Review Methodology
Master the critical evaluation of study design, biostatistical validity, and ethical considerations in submitted manuscripts.
Developmental Editing
Guide authors through significant structural revisions to enhance narrative flow, clarity, and policy impact.
Board Governance
Participate in strategic editorial board reviews to determine journal focus, special issue themes, and publication standards.
Authoring Editorials
Draft high-impact primary editorials that set the discourse tone for upcoming thematic issues of the BCPH Review.

Who Should Apply?
We are seeking self-directed and highly motivated individuals who have:
- Strong writing and editing skills
- An interest in working in an academic publishing space.
- A passion for peer review research and public health, particularly when examined through the lenses of social justice and equity.
What are the core editorial deliverables?
Over the 12-month term, fellows must complete: (1) The end-to-end editorial management of at least 10 submitted manuscripts, (2) The authorship of two primary editorials or perspectives for the BCPH platform, and (3) Active participation in monthly editorial board governance meetings.
Is prior peer-review experience mandatory?
Formal experience as a peer-reviewer for an academic journal is highly advantageous but not strictly required. However, a profound foundation in epidemiological research methodology, exceptional critical analysis skills, and prior academic publication history are mandatory prerequisites for consideration.
Who is eligible to apply for this cohort?
This program is highly rigorous and designed for post-doctoral scholars, doctoral candidates (PhD, DrPH), medical residents, and exceptional master’s level practitioners who possess a demonstrated capacity for high-level academic writing and scientific critique.
Applicant Eligibility
- Applicants from public health and aligned fields are encouraged to apply. A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in public health, epidemiology, biostatistics, health policy, or a related field.
- A basic understanding of scientific research. Applicants with experience in writing and reviewing grant proposals and other research-related materials are preferred.
- Must be able to join all training sessions (see schedule below).
- Must have strong written and verbal communication skills
- Preferred (but not required): Working knowledge of software tools and platforms used for peer review and public health research (e.g., manuscript management systems, statistical software).
- Preferred (but not required): Reviewing experience of academic journals.
